From the pioneering days of electronic music, to K-town post-punk and hardcore, all the way through to experimental art collectives, Denmark has always had an extremely prominent underground scene.

Today, labels such as Escho, Posh Isolation, Tambourhinoceros, The Big Oil Recording Company and NESM lead the charge putting their weight behind artists willing to push the boundaries of their creativity.

Our fourth playlist is a selection of some of our favourite bands both old and new from the Danish underground. From the raw and unique post-punk sounds of Iceage, Pardans, and MOTH, to the powerful and emotive experimental music of Croatian Amor, Astrid Sonne, Soho Rezanejad and An Gella, all the way out to borderless sounds of Selvhenter, Gel and Frisk Frugt.

Some of these musicians are not native to Denmark. However, all of these artists are a part of the Danish music scene, and have both contributed and taken influence from it.

We’ve found that there aren’t many readily available playlists that explore the Danish underground. This playlist is the result of having spent hours exploring the scene in order to list some of the most inimitable and diverse artists the country has to offer.

As with all of our playlists there is always more out there to discover, but whether you’re already familiar with these artists or not, we hope this will give you an interesting and diverse gateway into the Danish music scene.
